Well Water Pumps Defined

Posted by admin under TOOLS and EQUIPMENT

Water pumps have several different home and industrial applications. One of the most common household uses is in wells. They are used to siphon the water from the well to the desired location.

A submersible pump is mainly comprised of a motor that is fully enclosed. A proper submersible pump does not allow any water to enter the motors circuits. Water that is able to enter the circuits in the motor would cause a short circuit and cause a malfunction in the pump. Most submersible pumps are also built to be able to handle jobs that require use in locations where dirt and sand may enter the system. The submersible pump is lowered and with the motor creates a pressure difference between the hose and the water source. The liquid then tries to regain the desired equilibrium and moves up the hose to the desired location. This is different than a jet pump which is placed at the end location and draws the water through the hose. It causes the same pressure change; however, it does so by creating a vacuum at the end point. All well pumps have a limit of how much water they can produce per second. If the specifications of the pump are not followed cavitation can occur causing damage to the pumps and reducing their lifetime. All pumps however specify exactly how much water they can produce per second and are inspected to ensure that the cavitation will not occur.

Water pumps are a necessary part of life for anyone who uses a well for drinking water, and a properly functioning well pump will run efficiently for several years.
